Amanjot Kaur Addresses Grandmother Death Rumors Following India's World Cup Win: Setting the Record Straight.

India's Amanjot Kaur, a star all-rounder in the Women's Cricket World Cup, has recently addressed rumors surrounding her grandmother's health following India's victory. After India defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the final at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday, November 2, 2025, false reports circulated online claiming that her 75-year-old grandmother, Bhagwanti Kaur, had passed away.

Amanjot Kaur has refuted these claims, clarifying that her grandmother is "doing well and in good health". Taking to Instagram, the 25-year-old cricketer shared a photo of her grandparents and urged people to stop spreading false information and verify facts before sharing them online. "Heyy just wanted to share that my grandmother is doing well and in good health. Please don't believe or spread false information circulating online. Thank you to everyone who's reached out with care and concern," Amanjot wrote. She added, "My 90s kid is doing absolutely fine".

It was earlier reported that Bhagwanti Kaur suffered a heart attack sometime before the World Cup final. According to Amanjot's father, Bhupinder Singh, the family chose to keep this information from her to ensure she remained focused on the tournament. Bhupinder Singh, a carpenter from Mohali, mentioned that his mother has been Amanjot's "pillar of strength" since she started playing cricket. He told The Indian Express that the family did not want to distract her with the news. He recounted how Amanjot had an intuition that her grandmother wasn't well before the final match. She called her sister and then her father, and after some insistence, she spoke to her grandmother on a video call where Bhagwanti wished her the best.

Amanjot played a crucial role in India's World Cup victory. In the final against South Africa, she took a vital catch to dismiss Laura Wolvaardt, who was in excellent form with a century. This catch proved to be a turning point, shifting the momentum in India's favor. Throughout the tournament, Amanjot amassed 146 runs at an average of 36.50 and claimed six wickets in seven outings.

Bhupinder Singh noted that the news of India's victory and Amanjot's performance had given "new life" to his mother, who has been bedridden since September. He mentioned that Bhagwanti was discharged from the hospital at the family's request to watch the final match at home. "When we told her about the win, she opened her eyes," he said.

The Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) has announced a cash reward of ₹11 lakh each for India captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Amanjot Kaur, honoring their contributions to India's historic World Cup triumph.
