The Professional Women's Hockey League's (PWHL) Boston Fleet will be well-represented in the upcoming 2025 Rivalry Series, with three of its players selected to participate in the annual clash between the U.S. and Canadian women's national teams. National team veterans Megan Keller and Aerin Frankel will be joined by PWHL rookie Haley Winn on the U.S. squad.
The Rivalry Series is a four-game competition that showcases the highest level of women's hockey. This year's series begins on November 6 at Rocket Arena in Cleveland, followed by a game in Buffalo on November 8 at the KeyBank Center. The series will then move to Canada in December, with two games at Rogers Place in Edmonton on December 10 and 13. These games serve as an important measuring stick for both teams as they prepare for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina, Italy.
Megan Keller, a veteran defender and alternate captain for the Fleet, brings a wealth of experience to Team USA. She has represented the U.S. at the 2018 and 2022 Olympics and has played in seven IIHF Women's World Championships, four 4 Nations Cups, and several U18 events. Last season with the Fleet, Keller tallied five goals and eight assists in 30 games. Keller is also a key offensive contributor for the Fleet, leading the team in scoring with nine points through 11 games.
Aerin Frankel, a former Northeastern goaltender, has quickly established herself as one of the league's top netminders. Frankel made her national team debut in the 2019-20 Rivalry Series and led the U.S. to a gold medal in the 2023 IIHF Women's World Championship, starting in five consecutive games. Last season, she played 23 games for the Fleet, posting a 12-8-3 record with a 2.28 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage. Her playoff performance was even more impressive, boasting a .953 save percentage in eight games. Frankel is continuing her strong play this season, leading the league in minutes played among goaltenders and posting a .925 save percentage and a 2.08 goals-against average. In the previous Rivalry Series, Frankel delivered a standout performance, making 104 saves in three games with a .923 save percentage, despite Team USA's 2-3 record against Canada.
Haley Winn, selected second overall by the Fleet in the 2025 PWHL Draft, is set to make her Rivalry Series debut. The young defender is expected to bring fresh energy and skill to the U.S. team.
Team USA will be looking to improve upon their performance in the previous Rivalry Series, where they lost to Canada three games to two. The U.S. team will feature other stars such as Hilary Knight, Kendall Coyne Schofield, Caryla Barnes, and Alex Carpenter. Canada enters the series with a strong roster, including Emerance Maschmeyer, who is expected to play her first games since recovering from a knee injury. Three players, Hannah Miller, Caitlin Kraemer, and Kayle Osborne, are set to make their national team debuts for Canada in the U.S. games.
