The Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) is currently running training camps, but the USA-Canada Rivalry Series is already underway, and six players from the newly named Vancouver Goldeneyes are participating for Team Canada. The United States and Canada will compete in four games during November and December.
The first game of the series took place on November 6 in Cleveland, Ohio, and resulted in a win for Team USA. The series continues on November 8 in Buffalo, New York, and will conclude with two games in Edmonton, Alberta, on December 10 and 13.
The Vancouver Goldeneyes, whose team name was revealed on Thursday, November 6, have a strong representation on Team Canada. The Goldeneyes' players participating in the Rivalry Series are forwards Sarah Nurse, Hannah Miller, and Jennifer Gardiner, along with defenders Sophie Jaques and Claire Thompson, and goaltender Emerance Maschmeyer.
Sarah Nurse, a key player for Team Canada and now a Vancouver Goldeneyes member, was notably left unprotected by the Toronto Sceptres during the 2025 PWHL Expansion Draft. The Goldeneyes quickly seized the opportunity to add her to their roster. Hannah Miller, another forward, also joined the Goldeneyes from the Sceptres in the offseason. Jennifer Gardiner, while not a former Sceptres player, brings experience from playing against them with Montréal Victoire.
The Vancouver Goldeneyes are the first PWHL team to be named after an animal. The team's logo features a golden eye encircled by wings, pointing towards the Pacific Northwest, and incorporates the team's colors: Pacific Blue, Coastal Cream, and Earthy Bronze, with hints of Sunset Gold and Sky Blue. The Goldeneyes' identity is inspired by the Common Goldeneye, a bird native to Vancouver's waterways, coastlines, and mountain vistas, known for its speed, strength, and precision in flight.
The Goldeneyes will play their first regular-season game on November 21 at the Coliseum against their expansion cousins, the Seattle Torrents. Vancouver and Seattle joining the PWHL brings the league to eight teams for its third year. Although the team names have been revealed, the Goldeneyes will wear PWHL Vancouver jerseys for their first year, with branded jerseys planned for the 2026-2027 season.
