In a significant move to solidify their goaltending, the Edmonton Oilers have acquired Tristan Jarry from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Stuart Skinner, Brett Kulak, and a 2029 second-round draft pick. The deal, announced Friday, December 12, 2025, also sees the Oilers pick up forward prospect Samuel Poulin from Pittsburgh. In a separate transaction, Edmonton shored up their defensive depth by acquiring Spencer Stastney from the Nashville Predators, giving up a 2027 third-round pick.
Tristan Jarry, 30, has two years remaining on his contract with a $5.375 million cap hit. This season, he has a 9-3-1 record, a 2.66 goals-against average, and a .909 save percentage in 14 games. Throughout his career, Jarry holds a 161-100-32 record with a 2.74 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage over 307 appearances.
Stuart Skinner, 27, who helped the Oilers reach back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals, has posted an 11-8-4 record with a 2.83 goals-against average and a .891 save percentage in 23 games this season. Skinner has a $2.6-million cap hit and is a pending unrestricted free agent.
Brett Kulak, 31, is in the final year of a four-year, $11 million contract he signed in 2022. In 31 games this season, the Edmonton native has two assists while averaging 17:42 of ice time.
Samuel Poulin, 24, was a first-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft. The right-winger has two assists over 15 career NHL games. This season, he also has nine goals and 20 points in 22 AHL games.
Spencer Stastney, 25, has one goal and eight assists in 30 games, averaging 14:52 per game this year.
The acquisition of Jarry addresses the Oilers' need for stability in net, while the addition of Stastney aims to compensate for the departure of Kulak. The trade signifies a bold move by the Oilers to strengthen their roster for a deep playoff run.
