Welling United Match Postponed After Potters Bar Manager Injured in Altercation; Man Arrested

A scheduled Isthmian League match between Welling United and Potters Bar Town was abruptly called off on Saturday, December 13, 2025, after an altercation at Welling United's Park View Road ground resulted in Potters Bar Town manager Sammy Moore requiring medical attention. A 42-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and is currently in police custody.

The incident occurred at approximately 1 p.m., two hours before the scheduled 3 p.m. kickoff. According to reports, an altercation took place involving Moore, leading to his injury. The extent of Moore's injuries has not been fully disclosed, but a club statement confirmed that he is receiving "appropriate care".

The Metropolitan Police are investigating the incident. "Police were called at approximately 13:00hrs on Saturday, 13 December to reports of an assault at a football ground on Park View Road, Welling," a statement from the authorities read. "Officers attended. A man, aged 42, was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. He has been taken into custody".

The Football Association has also been notified and is expected to conduct its own inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The match between Welling United and Potters Bar Town has been suspended indefinitely. A new date for the fixture will be announced in due course.

Prior to the postponement, Welling United were looking to continue their good form under Ryan Maxwell, having secured back-to-back league wins against Cheshunt and Whitehawk. They hoped to close the gap between the drop zone and safety. Potters Bar, on the other hand, have been facing a difficult season and are currently at the bottom of the Isthmian League Premier Division.

Potters Bar Town F.C. was formed in 1960 and currently play in the Isthmian League Premier Division.

This is a developing story, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
