Cameron Green Defends ‘Brilliant’ IPL 2026 Auction Move to Register as ‘Batter’: It Was My Manager’s Mistake
Adelaide, Australia – In a surprising turn of events ahead of the highly anticipated IPL 2026 auction, Australian all-rounder Cameron Green has clarified that his registration as a specialist batter was due to an error by his manager, confirming he will be available to bowl. Green, who is expected to be a top pick in the auction, addressed the confusion before a training session in Adelaide, stating that the "stuff-up" was unintentional.
"I'll be good to bowl," Green said. "I don't know if my manager would like to hear this, but there was a stuff-up on his end. He didn't mean to say 'batter'. I think he accidentally selected the wrong box. It was pretty funny how it's all played out, but it was actually a stuff-up on his end".
The 26-year-old Green, who has become a sought-after player in all three formats of the game, has a base price of INR 2 crore for the IPL 2026 mini-auction. He is among the 37 players placed under the highest base price for the auction, scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi on December 16.
Green previously played for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2023 and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2024. He missed the IPL 2025 season to recover from back surgery. He returned to international cricket in June as a specialist batter but has since been cleared to bowl and has been contributing as an all-rounder for Australia.
Green made his IPL debut in 2023, amassing 452 runs and taking six wickets for Mumbai Indians. In the following season with RCB, he scored 255 runs and scalped 10 wickets.
Despite the registration mix-up, Green is widely expected to be one of the most expensive players at the auction. Some predict he could even surpass the INR 27 crore record. Kolkata Knight Riders, with the largest remaining budget, are considered frontrunners to secure his services. Other teams such as Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings may also target Green.
Green also confirmed that he intends to watch the auction with his teammates and expressed his excitement about the unpredictable nature of the event. "I'm sure I will be [watching], with a few other guys. They're always good fun to watch. It's a bit of a lottery where you might go, but also who might be in your team, so it's always been fun to watch," Green stated.
Cameron Green made his international debut for Australia in 2020 and was a part of the Australian team that won the 2023 Cricket World Cup and the 2023 ICC World Test Championship.
