The Edmonton Oilers have solidified Quinn Hutson's future with the team, announcing a two-year contract extension for the promising young forward. The deal, carrying an average annual value of $875,000, demonstrates the Oilers' confidence in Hutson's potential and his clear path toward a more permanent role in the NHL.
Hutson, 24, has split the current season between the Oilers and their AHL affiliate, the Bakersfield Condors. In 6 NHL games, he has one goal. With the Condors, Hutson has been a dominant force, leading the team with 38 points (23 goals and 15 assists) in 30 games. His performance in the AHL has not gone unnoticed, earning him the AHL's Rookie of the Month honors for December. Hutson's 23 goals also lead all AHL rookies.
Hutson's journey to this point has been marked by perseverance. The North Barrington, Illinois native went undrafted. Prior to turning pro, Hutson played junior hockey for the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the USHL before joining Boston University for three seasons. During his junior year with the Terriers in 2024-25, he tallied an impressive 23 goals and 50 points in 38 games. He signed his initial two-year, entry-level contract with the Oilers in April 2025 after concluding his collegiate career.
Although he was unable to participate in the Oilers' 2025 Stanley Cup Playoff run due to signing after the trade deadline, he did get a taste of the NHL at the end of the 2024-25 regular season, appearing in two games. Hutson's path to the NHL is unique as he is the only forward among his brothers, Lane Hutson (a Calder Trophy winner with the Montreal Canadiens in 2025), Cole Hutson (a highly-regarded prospect for the Washington Capitals), and Lars Hutson (NHL Draft-eligible in 2027).
The Oilers' decision to extend Hutson's contract reflects their belief that he can become a valuable asset. Hutson's scoring touch, particularly evident in the AHL, provides the Oilers with an offensive boost. His ability to earn call-ups as an injury replacement and perform well in his NHL minutes suggests he is ready for a more significant role.
With this new contract, Quinn Hutson has solidified his near future in Edmonton and has a clearer path than ever to becoming a regular contributor in the Oilers' lineup.
