Roma secures Malen amidst transfer buzz; Carrick faces Manchester derby test: live football updates.

Roma Secure Donyell Malen in Loan Deal

AS Roma have officially announced the acquisition of Dutch international forward Donyell Malen from Aston Villa. The 26-year-old joins the Serie A club on an initial loan deal with an option to make the transfer permanent. Both clubs confirmed the transfer with statements expressing their sentiments. Roma conveyed their delight in securing Malen, while Aston Villa thanked him for his service and wished him well in his future endeavors.

Malen, who will wear the number 14 jersey, brings a wealth of experience to Roma, having previously played for PSV Eindhoven, Borussia Dortmund, and Aston Villa. Throughout his club career, he has made 294 appearances and scored 104 goals. A seasoned international, Malen has represented the Netherlands 49 times, scoring 13 goals, and featured in both the 2020 and 2024 European Championships.

Aston Villa signed Malen in January of last year from Borussia Dortmund, and he went on to make 46 appearances for the club. This season, he has contributed seven goals and two assists in all competitions. With Malen's departure, Aston Villa is reportedly looking to bolster their attack, with Tammy Abraham among their potential targets.

Carrick Faces Manchester Derby Challenge

Michael Carrick is set to embark on his first managerial role with Manchester United, beginning with a high-stakes Manchester derby against local rivals Manchester City. Appointed as head coach after Darren Fletcher's short term, Carrick faces a challenging start as he aims to revitalize United's season and secure a spot in next season's Champions League.

Carrick, who previously served as a caretaker manager in 2021, brings a wealth of experience to the role. However, his managerial stint at Middlesbrough saw him get sacked in June for failing to achieve promotion to the Premier League. Despite the pressure, Carrick remains confident, stating, "It's what we live for (big games) - some are more challenging than others but it's why we are here. So we'll go for it head-on".

Manchester United currently sits three points adrift of fourth-placed Liverpool in the Premier League standings. Meanwhile, Manchester City has the opportunity to narrow the gap on league leaders Arsenal with a victory at Old Trafford.

The Manchester derby, Carrick's first game as Manchester United head coach, will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
