The draw for the fourth round of the Carabao Cup has produced some exciting matchups, including a clash between Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur, as well as an all-Welsh tie between Wrexham and Cardiff City. The ties are scheduled to be played during the week commencing October 27.
Newcastle United, the defending Carabao Cup champions, will face a tough test as they host Tottenham Hotspur at St. James' Park. Newcastle progressed to the fourth round after a dominant 4-1 victory over Bradford City, with goals from Joelinton and Will Osula. Tottenham also secured their place in the last 16 with a win against Doncaster. This promises to be a competitive tie between two Premier League teams.
Wrexham, who beat Reading 2-0, will face Cardiff City in an all-Welsh clash. This is the first time Wrexham have reached this stage of the competition since 1977-78. Nathan Broadhead's brace secured Wrexham's place in the fourth round. Wrexham overcame Championship rivals Hull City and Preston North End in the previous rounds. This is only the second time in the competition's history that three Welsh clubs have reached this stage, the other occasion being in 1976-77 when Swansea and Wrexham both made it to the last 16.
The draw also features other all-Premier League ties. Arsenal will host Brighton. Liverpool will face Crystal Palace at Anfield. Chelsea will travel to face Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Other notable ties include Grimsby Town, the lowest-ranked team remaining in the competition, hosting Brentford. Swansea City will play Manchester City. Wycombe Wanderers will face Fulham.
The fourth round draw in full is as follows: * Arsenal vs Brighton & Hove Albion * Grimsby Town vs Brentford * Swansea City vs Manchester City * Newcastle United vs Tottenham Hotspur * Wrexham vs Cardiff City * Liverpool vs Crystal Palace * Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Chelsea * Wycombe Wanderers vs Fulham
The winners of these ties will progress to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.
