Luis Suarez Extends Inter Miami Stay: A Messi Reunion Continues with New Contract.

Luis Suarez has officially signed a contract extension with Inter Miami, securing his place with the club through the 2026 Major League Soccer (MLS) season. The announcement, made by Inter Miami on Wednesday, confirms Suarez will continue his partnership with Lionel Messi in South Florida.

The 38-year-old Uruguayan striker's initial contract was set to expire at the end of 2025, creating uncertainty about his future with the team. Despite speculation and a shifting role towards the end of the season, Inter Miami has moved to retain the veteran forward. According to reports, the agreement was nearing completion, with Suarez expected to remain with the Herons through the 2026 campaign.

Suarez's contributions were significant during Inter Miami's historic 2025 season, where the team clinched both the Eastern Conference Championship and the MLS Cup. His experience and leadership were considered crucial to the team's success, as well as their strong showing in international competitions, reaching the Round of 16 at the FIFA Club World Cup and the semifinals of the Concacaf Champions Cup. In 2025, Suarez made 50 appearances across all competitions, contributing 17 goals and 17 assists.

Suarez initially joined Inter Miami ahead of the 2024 season and quickly became a key player. In 2024, he led the team with 25 goals across all competitions, with 20 of those coming in the regular season. He also contributed nine regular-season assists. In his time with Inter Miami, Suarez has recorded 42 goals and 30 assists in 87 appearances.

However, Suarez's role evolved during the 2025 season. Although he maintained a high level of productivity, he was moved out of the starting lineup for the final four playoff games. Youngster Mateo Silvetti took his place, and Inter Miami continued their successful playoff run without a traditional striker. Suarez acknowledged the challenge of being benched but emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive attitude.

Notably, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba both retired at the end of the 2025 season. With Messi committed to Inter Miami through 2028, the retention of Suarez provides continuity and experience to the squad. The club may also have the opportunity to add a third designated player to further strengthen the team.

Suarez's new contract also factors in a suspension he received for an incident following the Leagues Cup final, which will affect his availability for Leagues Cup matches in 2026. Despite this, he is expected to be a valuable rotational player for the team.
