Dominic Calvert-Lewin's brace powers Leeds past Crystal Palace in dominant display securing crucial victory.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin's resurgence continued as his two goals propelled Leeds United to a convincing 4-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Elland Road on Saturday. The win significantly boosts Leeds' Premier League survival hopes, widening the gap between them and the relegation zone to six points.

Calvert-Lewin's brace came amidst a dominant performance from Daniel Farke's side, although all their goals stemmed from set pieces. Ethan Ampadu's long throws proved to be a potent weapon, with Crystal Palace's Chris Richards inadvertently flicking one on for Calvert-Lewin's opener. The striker pounced, netting at the second attempt. Ampadu was again the provider for Calvert-Lewin's second, this time Jaka Bijol heading on the long throw, allowing the former Everton man to score with a stooping header.

The goals mark a remarkable turnaround for Calvert-Lewin, who struggled for form earlier in the season. He has now scored in five consecutive Premier League games, a feat not achieved by a Leeds striker since Mark Viduka in 2003. His current scoring streak has seen him net six goals in his last five league matches, taking his season tally to seven.

Leeds' dominance extended beyond Calvert-Lewin's goals. In the second half, Ethan Ampadu added his name to the scoresheet, reacting quickest to stab home after Crystal Palace failed to clear Anton Stach's corner properly. Crystal Palace substitute Justin Devenny pulled one back from the penalty spot in added time after Christantus Uche was fouled by Lucas Perri. However, Anton Stach restored the three-goal advantage with a wonderful free-kick with virtually the last kick of the match.

While Leeds dominated open play, their goals came from set-pieces, highlighting their effectiveness in capitalizing on these opportunities. Crystal Palace, who made multiple changes to their starting lineup following their UEFA Conference League draw against KuPS, struggled to gain a foothold in the game.

The victory sparked a boisterous atmosphere at Elland Road, with the Leeds fans embracing the opportunity to celebrate a vital win ahead of Christmas. Calvert-Lewin, who was unemployed for much of the summer, is clearly relishing his role as the focal point of the Leeds attack, with the fans chanting his name.

Leeds will be looking to build on this result as they aim to secure their Premier League status, while Crystal Palace will need to regroup after a disappointing performance.
