Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has praised Dominic Calvert-Lewin, suggesting he is on the path to becoming a "Leeds United hero" following his impressive goal-scoring form. The striker, who joined Leeds as a free signing from Everton in the summer, has recently hit a rich vein of form, scoring in his fifth consecutive Premier League game. This is the first time Calvert-Lewin has achieved this feat since October 2020.
In a recent match, Calvert-Lewin scored twice in the first half, contributing significantly to Leeds United's dominant 4-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Elland Road. This win propelled Leeds six points clear of the Premier League relegation zone. Ethan Ampadu also scored his first league goal for the club, and Anton Stach's late free-kick sealed the victory.
Farke acknowledged Calvert-Lewin's potential to become a key figure for Leeds, but he also emphasized the need for consistency over the entire season. "Right now he's on the on a path to be a top-class player for Leeds United and also a Leeds United hero," Farke stated. He added, "But you know my attitude – I don't like to speak about quality and top-class players just after a few weeks or a good couple couple of months". Farke wants Calvert-Lewin "to keep going, not to be happy with a good couple of months and a good few weeks, so he has to continue".
Calvert-Lewin's contributions have been crucial in Leeds' recent resurgence after a concerning run of four straight defeats in November. The team has since secured a win against Chelsea and draws against Liverpool and Brentford, in addition to the victory over Crystal Palace. Farke commended his team's performance, calling the win "amazing" and "important".
Before this impressive streak, Calvert-Lewin faced criticism for not scoring in his initial seven games for Leeds, leading some fans to question the club's decision to sign him. However, he has since silenced his doubters and is now on the verge of joining an elite list of Leeds strikers if he continues his scoring form. Only three Leeds United players have previously scored in five consecutive Premier League games, with Mark Viduka being the last to achieve this over two decades ago.
Farke had previously described Dominic Calvert-Lewin as one of the best English strikers. Farke believes that moving to Elland Road offers Calvert-Lewin an opportunity to revive his career. Farke also highlighted Calvert-Lewin's Premier League experience and believes he will bring valuable qualities to the team.
