New Zealand's commanding 2-0 series victory over the West Indies has propelled them to the second position in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 standings. The Black Caps sealed the series with a dominant 323-run win in the third Test at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on December 22, 2025. This win allowed New Zealand to overtake South Africa and Sri Lanka in the standings.

The series win was built on strong performances from New Zealand's top order. In the third Test, Devon Conway struck a double century (227), and captain Tom Latham added 137 in the first innings, setting a strong foundation with a massive score of 575/8. In the second innings, both openers scored centuries again, with Latham scoring 101 and Conway 100, helping New Zealand declare at 306/2 and setting a target of 462 for the West Indies.

The West Indies struggled to cope with New Zealand's bowling attack in the third Test, getting bowled out for 138 in their second innings. Jacob Duffy was the chief destroyer, taking five wickets for 42 runs. Ajaz Patel also contributed significantly, taking three wickets. In the first innings, the West Indies managed 420, with Kavem Hodge scoring an unbeaten 123.

With this win, New Zealand now has 28 points and a परसेंटेज of Points Earned (PCT) of 77.78%. Australia continues to lead the WTC table with a perfect record of six wins from six matches and a PCT of 100%. South Africa is now in third place with a PCT of 75%, while Sri Lanka is fourth with 66.67%.

India, on the other hand, finds itself in sixth place with a PCT of 48.15%. They have four wins and four losses in their nine contested matches. India's recent struggles, including a home series defeat to South Africa, have impacted their position in the WTC standings. After losing to South Africa, India had slipped to fifth place. England is in seventh place with a PCT of 27.08%, followed by Bangladesh (16.67%) and West Indies (4.17%).

The WTC standings are based on the percentage of points earned, with each series carrying the same weight. This system aims to provide a fair representation of team performance throughout the two-year cycle. Australia, South Africa, Sri Lanka and New Zealand are currently in a strong position to reach the WTC final. India and England will need to improve their performance in the remaining matches to have a chance to qualify for the WTC final.
