The Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 is underway, but cricket fans might not see Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in action for Round 3. Both players participated in the first two matches for their respective domestic sides after a prolonged absence from the List A scene.
Kohli represented Delhi, amassing 208 runs and becoming the fastest player to reach 16,000 runs in List A cricket. In Delhi's recent match against Gujarat, Kohli scored 77 runs. Rohit Sharma, playing for Mumbai, smashed a 94-ball 155 in his first game but followed it up with a first-ball duck in the second. In Mumbai's match against Uttarakhand, Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a duck, but Mumbai still secured a 51-run victory.
While Kohli and Sharma were expected to participate in the first few rounds, it is unlikely they will continue into Round 3. Both Kohli and Rohit retired from T20I cricket after India's World Cup win in 2024 and from Test cricket ahead of the tour of England earlier this year. They are likely to play until the 2027 World Cup in South Africa.
Rishabh Pant will likely continue to lead Delhi. In the match against Gujarat, Pant scored 70 runs. Pant's recent form is a welcome sign after being out of the spotlight in white-ball cricket. His performance could give selectors something to consider for future series.
Round 3 of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 commences on December 29. Delhi will face Saurashtra at the KSCA Cricket (2) Ground in Alur. Mumbai's schedule includes a match against Chhattisgarh in Jaipur. Fans anticipated seeing Kohli and Sharma in action, but their participation remains uncertain.
