Sweden's power play proved to be a major factor in the game. Their first unit consists of Frondell, Eklund, Berglund, Freij, and Ivar Stenberg.

Earlier in the tournament, Sweden secured a 3-2 victory against Slovakia, with Frondell contributing a goal and an assist. Sweden's power play was also key in that game.

Team USA had previously beaten Germany 8-1 in a pre-tournament game. However, the score was only 4-3 at one point in the second period.
