In a New Year's Eve swap, the Philadelphia Flyers have traded defenseman Egor Zamula to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for center Philip Tomasino. The move, announced Wednesday by both teams, sees Zamula heading to Pittsburgh while Tomasino joins the Flyers organization.
Zamula, 25, has appeared in 13 games for the Flyers this season, recording one assist. He also played three games for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL, where he tallied two assists. According to prohockeyrumors.com, Zamula's name had been mentioned in trade talks since the beginning of the season and was linked to the Flames. However, after being a healthy scratch for six straight games in December, the Flyers placed him on waivers.
Tomasino, also 25, played in nine NHL games for the Penguins this season, notching two assists. In 14 AHL games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, he has five goals and 10 assists.
Zamula is signed through the 2025-26 season with an average annual value of $1.7 million. After signing with the Flyers as an undrafted free agent in 2020, Zamula spent his entire pro career in the Flyers organization. In 168 career appearances, he has 8 goals and 41 points.
While Zamula will start in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, he'll likely get a chance to prove himself.
