Daryl Mitchell's Consecutive Centuries Against India: An Unstoppable Force Continues His Dominance.

Daryl Mitchell has once again cemented his reputation as a thorn in India's side, following up a masterful century in Rajkot with another impressive ton in Indore. This remarkable feat marks his fourth One Day International (ODI) century against India, with each of those being on Indian soil. Mitchell’s consistent performance has not only rattled the Indian bowlers but has also solidified his place as a key player for New Zealand.

In the second ODI in Rajkot, Mitchell's unbeaten 131 propelled New Zealand to a seven-wicket victory, leveling the series. Chasing a target of 285, Mitchell's partnership with Will Young (87) proved pivotal, steering the Black Caps to their first ODI win against India since 2023. This victory ended an eight-match losing streak against India and marked their first 50-over away win against the Asian powerhouse in over eight years. Mitchell was named player of the match.

Mitchell walked in to bat when New Zealand were at 2-46, and he helped take control of the game. He struck 11 fours and two sixes in his 117-ball innings, building an unbeaten stand of 78 with Glenn Phillips. Reflecting on the win, Mitchell expressed his satisfaction, noting the significance for the younger players in challenging a top team like India.

Continuing his stellar form into the third ODI in Indore, Mitchell notched his ninth ODI century overall. He has passed the 80-run mark in each of the three games of the series. This latest century further exemplifies Mitchell's dominance against India, a trend that has been developing over recent years.

Notably, Mitchell has a penchant for performing well in Asia, where he averages 56.03 in ODIs, the best among New Zealand players with at least two innings. Six of his eight centuries have been scored overseas, with three of them in India. In the 2023 World Cup, Mitchell showcased his ability by scoring two centuries against India, including one in the semi-final.

Mitchell's consistency against India extends beyond centuries; he has recorded six 50-plus scores in his last seven outings against them, amassing over 670 runs at an average exceeding 70. He joined Kane Williamson as the second Kiwi batter to register four consecutive 50-plus ODI scores against India.

While Mitchell can graft, he can also accelerate, striking at 91 between overs 11-40 and then exploding to 147.30 between overs 41-50.
