The Toronto Maple Leafs have re-signed forward Nick Robertson to a one-year contract extension worth $1.825 million. This deal, announced on August 2, 2025, avoids a scheduled arbitration hearing.

Robertson, 23, is coming off a season where he recorded a career-high 15 goals and 7 assists for 22 points in 69 games. He also contributed a goal and an assist in three Stanley Cup Playoff games. Selected by Toronto in the second round (53rd overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft, Robertson has accumulated 32 goals and 24 assists for 56 points in 156 regular-season games with the Maple Leafs. He also has two goals and one assist in 13 career playoff games.

This marks the third consecutive year that the Maple Leafs have had a player elect to go to arbitration, with Ilya Samsonov in 2023 and Connor Dewar in 2024 also filing. However, like Dewar, Robertson was able to reach an agreement with the team before the hearing. In Robertson's case, his camp requested $2.25 million, while the Maple Leafs offered $1.2 million. The final agreement of $1.825 million is a compromise between the two figures.

With the signing of Robertson, the Maple Leafs have approximately $1.1 million in cap space. The team now has 15 forwards under contract, a number that will need to be reduced before the start of the regular season. This could potentially lead to trades involving players like David Kampf or Calle Jarnkrok.

Robertson had previously requested a trade last summer. Although he made the NHL roster out of training camp, he struggled to maintain a consistent role in the lineup and saw limited action in the playoffs. Despite the new contract, Robertson's long-term future with the Maple Leafs remains uncertain.
