South Africa coach baffled by Hardik Pandya snub for Player of the Series despite impactful performance.

Following India's series-clinching victory against South Africa on Friday, December 19, 2025, the South African coach expressed his surprise at Hardik Pandya not being named Player of the Series. India won the fifth and final T20I by 30 runs, securing the series 3-1.

Pandya's explosive performance in the series, particularly his quick-fire 63 off 25 balls in the final match, which included smashing the second-fastest half-century by an Indian in T20Is (16 balls), was instrumental in India posting a formidable total of 231/5. His innings was laced with four fours and five sixes. Alongside Tilak Varma's 73 off 42, their 105-run partnership propelled India to a commanding position.

"He’s been the difference," the South African coach stated, acknowledging Pandya's impact. The coach highlighted Pandya's experience in identifying the right balls to attack and his clarity in executing shots. "As soon as the ball was in his areas of strength, he put a proper swing on it - no half measures," he added.

In the first T20I, Pandya also delivered a notable performance, scoring an unbeaten 59 off 28 balls, which earned him the Player of the Match award. He rescued India from a precarious situation, demonstrating his ability to perform under pressure.

Varun Chakravarthy's impressive performance with the ball in the final match, taking 4 wickets for 53 runs, ultimately earned him the Player of the Match award. Jasprit Bumrah also contributed with an economical spell, taking 2 wickets.

South Africa's chase in the final match started strong, with Quinton de Kock scoring 65 off 35 balls. However, after De Kock was dismissed by Bumrah, and Chakravarthy took wickets in quick succession, South Africa's innings faltered, eventually ending at 201/8.

Pandya's contributions throughout the series extended beyond his batting prowess. His bowling and fielding were also crucial in pivotal moments. He emphasized the importance of selflessness and putting the team's needs first, stating, "It doesn't matter what Hardik Pandya wants, it is about what India wants".

The series win marked a significant achievement for India, ending the year on a high note. However, the South African coach's sentiment underscores the acknowledgment of Pandya's pivotal role in India's success and the surprise that his contributions weren't recognized with the Player of the Series award.
