Mohamed Salah has reportedly apologized to his Liverpool teammates following a heated exchange that occurred after the Reds' 3-3 draw against Leeds United earlier this month. The Egyptian forward, who had been named on the bench for the third consecutive game, allegedly launched a tirade against the club and head coach Arne Slot, accusing them of scapegoating him for the team's recent poor results. He also reportedly claimed that his relationship with Slot had broken down and suggested that someone at Anfield was trying to force him out.
The outburst triggered a media firestorm, with speculation mounting about Salah's future at the club. He was subsequently dropped from the squad for Liverpool's Champions League match against Inter Milan. However, he was reinstated for the weekend's Premier League clash with Brighton, coming off the bench to assist Hugo Ekitike in a 2-0 victory.
According to Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, Salah has since taken responsibility for his actions and apologized to his teammates. In an interview with Sky Sports, Jones revealed that Salah said, "If I've affected anybody or made you feel any sort of way, I apologise. That's the man that he is".
Jones downplayed the incident, emphasizing Salah's positive attitude and winning mentality. "Mo is his own man and he can say his own stuff," Jones said. "He was positive as well. He was the exact same Mo, he had a big smile on his face and everybody was exactly the same with him. I guess it's just part of wanting to be a winner and I don't think he will be the last".
He also stated he "would have a bigger problem with a teammate being happy to sit on the bench than Salah claiming he should be in the team". Jones insisted that any anger from the players "has always been from a good place," and not intended to affect the team or staff. "We're past that now and we're gelling well as a team, playing well and starting to win games," he added.
Arne Slot had previously declined to comment on whether he received a personal apology from Salah, stating that he did not want to create "a distraction" while the player is at the Africa Cup of Nations. Liverpool are currently seventh in the Premier League, with 26 points after 16 matches. They are scheduled to face Tottenham Hotspur this Saturday as they aim to continue their winning form.
