Jerrssis Wadia is the name on everyone's lips in the Big Bash League (BBL) after his explosive entry into the 2025-26 season with the Adelaide Strikers. The 24-year-old all-rounder, with roots in India, has quickly become a player to watch, showcasing his talent in his very first appearances.
Wadia's journey is one of perseverance. Born in India, he honed his cricketing skills in Baroda before moving to Australia at a young age. His connection to India remains strong, with his parents still residing in Mumbai. Before joining the Adelaide Strikers' senior team, Wadia was a part of the Strikers' U19 program. He further developed his game in the South Australian Premier Cricket circuit, representing Adelaide, East Torrens, and Tea Tree Gully.
Wadia's opportunity arrived when he was named as a local replacement player for Alex Carey in the Adelaide Strikers squad for BBL|15. Head Coach Tim Paine expressed his excitement about Wadia joining the team, recognizing his talent and highlighting his journey through the Strikers Academy. Wadia made his BBL debut against the Melbourne Stars.
It was in his second BBL match, against the Brisbane Heat, that Wadia truly announced himself. Coming in to bat at number 7, he launched an onslaught, particularly against bowler Jack Wildermuth. Wadia smashed three consecutive sixes followed by a four, accumulating 24 runs in the over and leaving a lasting impression. His innings of 34 runs off just 16 balls, which included four 6s, was a standout performance.
Despite Wadia's heroics, the Adelaide Strikers narrowly lost to the Brisbane Heat by seven runs. Chasing a target of 179/9, the Strikers fell short in the final over, marking their second loss in three matches. Wadia also bowled one over, conceding 12 runs.
Wadia is a left-handed batsman and a slow left-arm orthodox bowler. While he is yet to take a wicket in the BBL, his batting exploits have demonstrated his potential. He is also yet to make his first-class domestic debut in Australia.
Off the field, Wadia's rising popularity was evident when he met Pakistan and Brisbane Heat pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi and shared a photo on social media.
