Thiruvananthapuram, India - India Women completed a dominant 5-0 T20I series whitewash against Sri Lanka Women with a 15-run victory in the final match held on Tuesday. The series concluded on December 30, 2025, at the Greenfield International Stadium.
India, after winning the toss and electing to bat, posted a total of 175/7 in their 20 overs. The innings was largely held together by a captain's knock of 68 runs from Harmanpreet Kaur, who faced 43 deliveries and struck nine fours and one six. Arundhati Reddy provided a late-innings boost with a quickfire 27 off just 11 balls. The start of the innings saw early wickets falling, leaving India at 77/5 in the 11th over, before Kaur stabilized the innings. Amanjot Kaur contributed a steady 21, forming a crucial partnership with the captain. Sri Lanka's Kavisha Dilhari and Chamari Athapaththu each took two wickets.
In response, Sri Lanka began their chase strongly, with Hasini Perera scoring 65 off 42 balls and Imesha Dulani contributing 50 off 39 deliveries. However, after their 79-run partnership, the rest of the batting lineup struggled to maintain the momentum. Regular wickets hampered their progress, and they eventually finished at 160/7 in their 20 overs. India's bowlers maintained tight control, with Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana, and Vaishnavi Sharma each taking crucial wickets.
Deepti Sharma also achieved a personal milestone during the match, becoming the highest wicket-taker in women's T20Is with 152 wickets, surpassing Australia's Megan Schutt. She dismissed Nilakshika Silva to claim her record-breaking wicket.
Reflecting on the series win, Harmanpreet Kaur expressed that 2025 had been a rewarding year for the team, noting the positive results stemming from their hard work. She emphasized the team's focus on improving strike rates and maintaining consistency. Shafali Verma was named Player of the Series for her impressive run-scoring performance, amassing 241 runs at an average of 80.33. Harmanpreet Kaur was named Player of the Match for her brilliant batting display.
While India demonstrated dominance throughout the series, head coach Amol Muzumdar may see the series as a reminder of the importance of fielding. Dropped catches were a recurring issue, although not costly in this series. With the T20 World Cup approaching in six months, addressing these fielding lapses will be crucial.
The Indian team will next be seen in action at the Women's Premier League (WPL), scheduled to commence on January 9.
