Thomas Frank's Brentford Grabs a Point Against Spurs, Who Face Boos After Disappointing Performance

Thomas Frank's return to Brentford ended in a goalless draw, with Tottenham Hotspur failing to secure a win against his former club. The match at the Gtech Community Stadium on New Year's Day saw few clear-cut chances, leading to a frustrating result for both sides. Spurs fans voiced their displeasure, chanting "boring, boring Tottenham" as the game petered out.

Frank, who managed Brentford for seven years and 317 games before joining Spurs, received a warm welcome from the home crowd. However, the positive atmosphere didn't translate into a strong performance from his Tottenham side. Tottenham have more Premier League clean sheets in 19 games under Frank this season (7), than they did in 38 games under Ange Postecoglou across the entirety of last season (6).

The first half saw an early goal from Brentford's Kevin Schade ruled out for offside, sparing Tottenham an early setback. Archie Gray had an effort blocked at the other end, but the defenses generally remained on top. After the break, Brentford upped the pressure, with Keane Lewis-Potter and Vitaly Janelt failing to convert their chances. Igor Thiago also struggled to test Tottenham's goalkeeper, Guglielmo Vicario.

Tottenham's attacking woes were evident as they struggled to create meaningful opportunities. Caoimhin Kelleher, Brentford's goalkeeper, was forced into just two saves throughout the match. Richarlison's weak effort in stoppage time was easily collected by Kelleher, summing up Tottenham's lackluster performance.

Frank acknowledged his team's defensive solidity but admitted they lacked the "final offensive edge" needed to win. He noted that Tottenham had several promising transitions but failed to deliver the crucial final touch or pass. He highlighted the importance of a robust foundation during a hectic season, emphasizing that "if you can't win, don't lose".

Brentford's manager Andrews will be happy to see his side silence a Champions League outfit and stretch their undefeated run to four league games. The draw leaves Brentford in ninth place, three points behind fifth-placed Chelsea, while Tottenham are in 12th, a point further back.

Tottenham made three changes to their starting lineup, with Joao Palhinha replacing Lucas Bergvall in midfield and Cristian Romero returning from suspension in defense. Brennan Johnson was notably absent from the squad, with reports suggesting he is close to a move to Crystal Palace.

Both teams will be back in action on Sunday, with Tottenham hosting Sunderland and Brentford traveling to Everton.
