Australia's Pre-World Cup Tune-Up: A Quick Three-Match T20I Series in Pakistan

Australia is set to tour Pakistan for a three-match T20I series in Lahore, preceding the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. The series, confirmed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), will be held at Gaddafi Stadium, with matches scheduled for January 29, January 31, and February 1, 2026.

Australia's squad is expected to arrive in Lahore on January 28. All matches are scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM Pakistan Standard Time (PKT), with the coin toss taking place at 5:30 PM PKT.

Both teams will use this series as a crucial opportunity to fine-tune their preparations for the T20 World Cup, set to commence on February 7 across venues in India and Sri Lanka. The series allows both sides to finalize team combinations and acclimatize before the major tournament. Pakistan is placed in Group A for the World Cup, while Australia is in Group B.

This series marks Australia's return to Pakistan since their tour in March-April 2022, during which they played a Test series, an ODI series, and a lone T20I. Australia won the Test series, while Pakistan secured the ODI series victory. Australia also narrowly won the T20I held at Gaddafi Stadium in April 2022.

Pakistan enters the series following a drawn T20I series in Sri Lanka. Meanwhile, Australia comes off a 4-1 victory in the Ashes Test series against England.

Sumair Ahmed Syed, COO of the PCB, expressed his enthusiasm for hosting the series. He encouraged fans to support both teams as they finalize their preparations for the T20 World Cup. He also noted that the Gaddafi Stadium has become a familiar venue for the Australian team, as they have played a Test, five ODIs, and a T20I there since March 2022.

Historically, Pakistan and Australia have played 28 T20Is, with Australia winning 14 and Pakistan winning 12, with one match tied and one producing no result.
