Zach Werenski Reaches NHL Milestone: Blue Jackets' Star Skates in 600th Game.

Tonight marks a significant milestone for Zach Werenski as he is set to play his 600th NHL game when the Columbus Blue Jackets host the Anaheim Ducks at Nationwide Arena. Werenski becomes the first defenseman in Blue Jackets history to reach this milestone, and only the fourth player overall, joining Boone Jenner (759), Rick Nash (674), and Cam Atkinson (627).

Werenski, drafted eighth overall by the Blue Jackets in 2015, has become a cornerstone of the franchise. After a year at the University of Michigan, he contributed to the Lake Erie Monsters' Calder Cup victory in 2016 before making his NHL debut in the 2016-17 season. As a rookie, he scored 11 goals and 47 points, helping the Blue Jackets reach the postseason.

Throughout his career, Werenski has consistently improved, establishing himself as one of the league's premier offensive defensemen. He is currently having an exceptional season, on pace for a career-high 85 points. Through 33 games, Werenski has 9 goals and 33 points. He also leads all NHL defensemen in shots on goal (116), and multi-point games (11). Among NHL defensemen, he is tied for third in goals and second in points. His average ice time of 26:37 is second among NHL defensemen. He also has points in 13 of the last 16 games (5 goals and 17 assists) and has a 10-game home point streak.

Beyond the individual accomplishment, Werenski remains focused on the team's success. The Blue Jackets are currently on a five-game losing streak and are looking to Werenski's leadership to help turn things around. Werenski is five assists shy of becoming the first Blue Jackets player to reach 300 career assists. Jenner is also approaching a milestone, needing five points to become the fourth player in team history with 400 points.

As Werenski steps onto the ice for his 600th game, the Blue Jackets aim to end their losing streak against an Anaheim Ducks team that is having a successful season. The Ducks, with a record of 20-12-1, are near the top of the Western Conference.
